  19. PureVoice DESCRIPTION
  20. ========================

  22. QUALCOMM's PureVoice¬ Player-Recorder and QUALCOMM's PureVoice¬ Plug-In for
  23. Eudora¿ let you record voice messages on your computer and send them as
  24. e-mail attachments with your e-mail. The PureVoice Player-Recorder
  25. (standalone application) works with most e-mail systems on the Macintosh.
  26. If you are using Eudora Pro or Eudora Light version 3.1 or later for
  27. Macintosh as your e-mail software, the PureVoice Plug-In for Eudora lets
  28. you record and send PureVoice voice messages from within Eudora. In this
  29. case too, attachment of the voice message to a Eudora e-mail message is
  30. automatic, at the touch of a button in PureVoice.

  32. PureVoice features an easy-to-use onscreen player-recorder with a standard
  33. VCR-like button panel and digital readouts that let you customize your
  34. voice message. You can edit your voice messages by inserting additional
  35. recorded material into them, or by recording over existing material. You
  36. can play back your messages, adjusting speaker volume and varying speed
  37. without distortion of voice or pitch. You can adjust microphone
  38. volume/sensitivity when recording. You can save your voice messages to
  39. files for later use. Or, you can attach your voice messages to e-mail
  40. messages as soon as you're finished recording them.

  42. PureVoice voice messages are recorded at very high sound quality -- nearly
  43. equal to that of a telephone call made on a good-to-high-quality home
  44. phone. And the quality is equal to that of the world's best digital
  45. wireless telephones.

  47. When you send a PureVoice voice message as an attachment to your e-mail,
  48. your recipients can play back your voice message on their Power Macintosh
  49. or 32-bit Windows 95/NT computer, if they have PureVoice installed on their
  50. machine. QUALCOMM distributes PureVoice for free: have your recipients
  51. download the PureVoice Player-Recorder or the PureVoice Plug-In for Eudora
  52. from our Web site at <http://www.eudora.com>, or our ftp site at
  53. <ftp.eudora.com>.

  57. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  58. ======================

  60. To use QUALCOMM's PureVoice for Macintosh, in either Player-Recorder or
  61. Plug-In form, you must have the following:
  62.  
  63. *  A Power Macintosh.
  64. *  Macintosh System 7.5 or later.
  65. *  Sound Manager 3.2 or later.
  66. *  A microphone, external or built-in (Note: Not required for playback)
  67. *  The Plug-In version of PureVoice requires either Eudora Pro version 3.1
  68. or later for Macintosh or Eudora Light version 3.1 or later for Macintosh.

  72. INSTALLATION
  73. ==============

  75. Installation is simple. Once you have downloaded the PureVoice installer
  76. from our Web site, just double-click on the PureVoice installation icon on
  77. your desktop, and follow the instructions in the installation screens.

  79. When you have finished installation, either the PureVoice Player-Recorder
  80. (standalone application) will be installed in the folder of your choice, or
  81. the PureVoice Plug-In for Eudora will be installed in the Eudora Stuff or
  82. Plugins folder under the folder containing your Eudora Pro or Eudora Light
  83. version 3.1 (or later) for Macintosh application.
  84.  
  85. If you have installed the Plug-In version of PureVoice, you must quit and
  86. then restart Eudora in order to gain access to PureVoice through the Eudora
  87. menus.
  88.  
  89. To launch the PureVoice Player-Recorder (standalone application), simply
  90. double-click on the PureVoice application icon on your desktop.
  91.  
  92. To launch the PureVoice Plug-In, start Eudora, open a new message window,
  93. and then select PureVoice... from the Attach submenu under the Message menu.
  94.  
  95. PureVoice has several settings that let you customize the application to
  96. your needs. To access these settings, make PureVoice active and select
  97. Preferences... from the Edit menu (the PureVoice dialog must be closed).
  98. The settings dialog lets you specify whether or not to begin playing voice
  99. messages as soon as they're opened, to begin recording as soon as you start
  100. a new message, and to automatically save your recorded voice messages to
  101. files; it also lets you specify the input source, whether a microphone, an
  102. internal CD, or an audiovisual connector.

  105. below.

  107. Note: Each time you install an updated version of the PureVoice Plug-In for
  108. Eudora, you must quit and restart Eudora in order to make the updated
  109. Plug-In (and any new settings options) available from within Eudora.

  113. GETTING HELP
  114. ==============
  115.  
  116. Help is plentiful in PureVoice! First, there's Balloon Help. This can be
  117. accessed from the Balloon Help menu (Apple Guide menu) when PureVoice is
  118. launched and active. Select Show Balloons and then point to the object in
  119. the PureVoice dialog for which you want help. You can also point to menu
  120. titles and menu options. Turn off Balloon Help by selecting Hide Balloons
  121. from the Balloon Help menu. You can also turn Balloon Help on and off by
  122. pressing the help key on your Macintosh keyboard, if it has such a key.

  124. PureVoice also has an extensive online help system with clickable hotlinks
  125. that take you to your desired topic. With PureVoice launched and active,
  126. select PureVoice Help from the Balloon Help menu (Apple Guide menu). An
  127. online help dialog appears, showing the contents of the help system. Simply
  128. click on your desired topic, or click on the buttons at the bottom of the
  129. dialog to navigate through the help system. The online help includes
  130. step-by-step procedures for the main tasks in PureVoice, such as recording
  131. messages, playing them back, editing them, saving them, and attaching them
  132. to your e-mail messages.

  139. If you experience something you think might be a bug in PureVoice, please
  140. report it by sending a message to purevoice-bugs@qualcomm.com. Describe
  141. what you did, what happened, what version of PureVoice you have (select
  142. About PureVoice... from the Apple menu), any error messages PureVoice gave
  143. (the numbers in {}'s are especially important), what kind of computer you
  144. have, what version of System Software you're using, and anything else you
  145. think might be relevant.
